Not fair? Well, I have to give mathematics credit; it’s a very pragmatic language, allowing us to built a lot of neat toys to work with.

The distinction I make is between the pragmatics of it vs the faith in it. There’s a bit of a renaissance in the Cult of Pythagoras that’s hard to miss once you can see it. But Math as a tool, sure. I like it. I don’t like the 18th century written EXPRESSION of it; I prefer how it’s spelled out in computer programming better than formulas. But that’s a stylistic choice and also, i HATE dropped variables. Just look at ALL THE CONFUSION that results when E=MC2 becomes a “thing” rather than the full formula… all because of some over-eagerness for an “elegant formula” – part of the Cult of Pythagoras in modern times.

Dropping the variables results in problems for the surrounding culture. But I guess we like things fitting on T-Shirts… so it can’t be helped I guess.
