Recently, Jon Stewart declared that all citizens should be required to perform one year of military or community service after high school to promote a sense of community. He says we lost it.
Here’s how I look at it: You were just in 12 years of school. School had plenty of chance to teach these lessons. I learned them in Boy Scouts but there’s no reason it couldn’t have been taught in school.
Let’s try an experiment:
“All 37 – 49 year olds should be required to perform one act of community service for one weekend each month.”
We’ll see who cheers then. Jon Stewart: it’s easy to talk about requiring something you won’t have to do yourself.

“Addendum: Persons between the ages of 50-62 are required to serve two weekends a month in community building in order to set good role models for the younger generations.”
