ah, so many great artefacts! I pined after a modem after WarGames and wanted to get one for my Tandy CoCo 2. But, far better, for Christmas ’88 or ’89, I got a Tandy 1000 TL 286 with a 300 bps modem. It came with an online service called “PC-Link” (which was part of the whole AOL universe) for DeskMate. Made lots of friends on it. Went to a “Bash” in Allentown PA where we got banned from a Red Robin Inn after a 3 Day stay and leaving Silly String everywhere.
Same time, I was exploring BBS’ and also got onto my first real internet on a VAX/VMS in September 1990 and learned all about BITNET, LISTSERV, Usenet. Started traveling around the USA on Grayhound when I was off school to visit people I talked to. Lots of fun.
