Ah, ok, the gist of his argument is that art consumers demand change and artists bring it but they have to stay within a style which inhibits novelty yet the drive for novelty is supreme so there’s what we’d now call “dynamic frustration” (well that’s the phrase I like and it’s used academically as a way to capture the notion of oscillation and change due to interplay). He did so computationally as was possible in 1990. So now, to find out what these categories mean a little better. First to run my thing through it again to make sure I did it right.
