Ah! I know why I’m working on all this stuff for so long.
I want to be able to accurately summarize anything presented to me in any form in the shortest time possible to anyone who wants to know and mostly, to myself in a way that is accurately representative of my position that I am willing to stand behind. (put my name to)
To a lesser but only slightly lesser extent, it is important to do so in such a way that accomplishes this in forms that will be comprehended and understood by anybody, in some way, but not in any way requiring their agreement with my position.
I want to also be able to unfold the summary nugget as needed to whatever level of zoom I am capable of, which will likely fail at the level of a formulatic precision but be precise at any level between executive summary and precise formula.
I want to be able to translate into different fields.
That’s where I’m at right now. More to come. But this was a big one and so simple:
1) A surprise at my quick summary of a video got me part way.
2) A prompting of a memory which inspired my hierarchical zoom to “event” level spread among individuals with memories got me part way.
3) A prompting which encouraged me to write out my Dewey Decimal experiment which brought me to 115 Time and
Then I downloaded “The Moment of Change: A Systematic History in the Philosophy of Space and Time”.
It’s a thick text in a field I’m not good at (Philosophy), so I did what I usually do:
a) scan table of contents quickly
b) Scroll to the end of the book while glancing quickly at words that jump out.
c) Find the conclusion.
d) Ask myself: Do I agree or disagree?
That’s when it clicked.
* Why do I usually read this way? I don’t have to read any more to have a semi intelligent discussion about it IF faced with someone who actually read it. Some things I go the long way, some I go speed.
^ ACCURATE, FAIR JUDGE is another aspect along with being understood. Judging has always been my weak ability but it’s a necessity in life.
That’s why. Your ‘like” conveyed that and more to me. It could have been a “polite Like” out of kindness but even that would say a lot.
