I like when I find things I held for a long time are wrong – – it happens less and less, which is what I really enjoy. Each time I’m fact-checked (whether I do it to myself or it gets done to me),, I know that “what I know” is stronger now, more dependable.
I remember as a kid being told something about rockets. I don’t even know what. Somewhere as a teenager, I repeated it and got laughed at. I was confused. I went to the library and looked it up and found out WHY they laughed at me.
I don’t remember what it was about, except some fact about a rocket that was WAY WAY off-base. But the lesson remained:
a) sometimes I’m gonna look stupid
b) checking facts first helps prevent a) somewhat.
c) checking facts afterwards prevents a) as well, for future encounters..
