a person who is sensitive to mathematical words and tone of voice.

Person A: Tell dramatic story about how horrible someone was to them.

Person B: “Oh you’re just being oversensitive”.

Person A feels unheard. Gets angry/sad/depressed/vengeful – some kind of reactionary emotion, which can lead to unexpected actions.

The trigger word wasn’t oversensitive.

It’s “Oh”, which implies disagreement by the tone of voice. And “just” because it minimizes the “you”.

“You are just…”

The big dramatic tale becomes statistically meaningless and Person A feels meaningless. They went from the Victim of a Horrendous Villain….

… to a “just”. You = Just.

The “being oversensitive” could even be eliminated. “Oh, you’re just” would have the same reaction from a person who is sensitive to mathematical words and tone of voice.

This is my own theory by the way. I could be completely wrong. It’s just my experience in dealing with family , and lots of customers, bosses, etc through the years..
