A mental trick I’ve done since being a weird kid is imagining the states of matter suddenly swapping. So, I become air, the air becomes solid. Liquid stays liquid. Basic binary swap. What would that feel like? To be air me encased in solid? To be the solid air surrounding the gaseous me? Negative space. I’ve occasionally upgraded it to more complex combinations including plasma, different liquids, etc, but that’s the ‘gist’ of it.

Basic binary swap.

Color Reduce thresholding is a technique I just learned that’s similar.

Basically: you pick turn the middle into your background (128 out of 256 grays). Anything under 128 is black, anything above is white.

What do you end up with?

Delta (difference), which shows up as black lines and white lines.
