Let them think what they want about you as a person. Remember: It’s not _you_ that’s at work.
It’s your _role_ that’s at work.
If your role calls for you to behave a certain way, then you act. You play the part. It’s ok. They pay you to act the role you’re in.
Off work, that’s different.
A lot of life is roleplaying. Even now, I’m roleplaying. I’m “me”, yes. But I’m also playing a role. Right now, I’m playing the role of a 43 year old guy who “knows the ropes” – an “Uncle/Mentor/Self-Help Guru/coach”-type Role.
Is this really me? Well, yeah it’s me but it’s not just me.
It’s also a role I’m playing – a part in this play that is necessary for me to perform in right now. It’s authentic – it’s me, and yet, it’s also roleplaying… if that makes any sense
