I guess the message gets reformulated in new language for new contexts in new generations as we keep forgetting and remembering as a species.

A good example is basic humanism: it’s a reformulation of the Christian message of service and good will for a different audience. One of the great successes of ecumenism, at least through to the 1980s was due to humanism’s distillation and reformulation of a basically good message for a broader audience.
