A few years ago I went through some ANCIENT Usenet posts I made and for a time (1994 – 30 years ago? oof) , I had a tagline I wrote myself I put at the bottom of posts that said: “Perhaps there’s a small Wizard inside of every quark” Same kind of concept. I didn’t know then when Newton came up with inertia, he didn’t just use external impetus but he ALSO ALLOWED FOR *internal impetus* – the idea that particles _could_ be “self-driven”. So it’s not a bad mental space to be in methinks.
