1972 here. we’re the same generation. I’d have been in 7th grade when you were graduating high school but we’d still be in the same school system.
I played outside a lot but I got an Intellivision and then a Tandy Color Computer 2 and learned to program and we got cable TV.
I had a cassette player before that and recorded myself just like kids today make TikToks.
The 1990s was heavy pro-police time. They were sending kids to boot camps and cheering. Drug war was full swing. I think it was the 1990s when parents started locking their kids inside to stay safe. Helicopter parenting started, an overreach from not being watched enough.
Come to think of it, adults were weird growing up and I got into a lot of little incidents that would make most parents’ hair stand on end today.
I accepted it but really, it wasn’t right then. It’s better now in so many ways honestly.
