I thought I was Mr in the middle ’til 2014 and took my first political test. Found out that I’m apparently “anarchist left” or “left libertarian” or whatever. Surprise to me. But it explained why I never cared for politics; I’m not represented by anybody and never was. How it is.
I always said “I hate politics” or “politics is boring”. But I mostly voted in most elections. H. Ross Perot twice – just for the f of it. I think I forgot to vote in 2000. Even voted Republican once – Bush in 2004 because I liked that he used his daddy’s cabinet – then he swapped them out for new people, so last time I did that. Always indy, never declared a party ’til 2018 when I _had to_ because I decided I’d get into a politician ONCE, just to feel a bit of what the fanatics feel about theirs. So I got behind Andrew Gillium. I liked him. I could hold my breath and declare myself a Democrat under the Progressive Caucus in Florida for a bit as I was able to agree with maybe 65-70% of their long winded line-by-line positions on things at the time. It was exciting and fun! My guy got around 1/2% point below the guy that won, the DeSantis guy, which was about as 50/50 as I’ve ever seen. Loads of excitement. And that was that. No regrets and I understood why people get hyped over sometimes. But too much for me. But I did it once in my life and it was fun while I did it. Never trusted politicians, business people, religious leaders, right from the time I was a young teenager and I still don’t. I don’t “they’re out to get us” but I think people with power are in it for themselves, their familiies and friends, etc but sometimes they mean well too. Sometimes.
ooky stuff, but the human rights angle, hence this is the stuff I was reading in 2014 about it. It’s not that the Council of Europe was necessarily good but they were certainly better than what ICANN was doing, whether from negligence or malfeasance So, for me, human rights is king and is the angle I come at it from.
Well, I think it’s important to know first what’s on record allowed first; because big corps and governments _do_ try to do things legally first, embedding their powers legitimately (such as that is) inside of various legal instruments. Lawyers are always first. Nobody wants a lawsuit and it’s always possible to find a lawyer for any occasion given enough $. So, establishing that there is _not_ an IETF / IAB (Internet Advisory Board) backdoor process – one that CISCO had requested (and likely others had too such as NSA) means there could be legal consequences for those that break whose rules. In theory. So that’s a positive.
